| 2025 - Launches to Orbit and Beyond
Listed are launches, irrespective of outcome, that were irretrievably committed to flight towards orbit or intended to accelerate the payload to escape velocity. The following notes should help with understanding the launch lists.
Launch times are in UTC and are either from the launching agency or estimated by 'walking back' along the ground track to the launch site.
Most orbit data and decay information comes from SpaceTrack. The Space-Track data occasionally contains inconsistencies (eg - incorrect re-entry dates or early sets of elements allocated to the wrong object) that need to be corrected from other sources.
To fill the gaps where elements are not formally published, usually because they have a classification of "Secret", some orbits are based on amateur observations. Such data is published near-daily by Mike McCants. Occasionally, orbits are estimated by myself from public data.
Space-Track sometimes has insufficient information to allocate names to objects in its catalogue. In these cases, names are derived from public information.
Apogee and perigee are measured against a spherical Earth with a radius of 6378.145 km, assumed to be situated at the focus of the orbital ellipse. The value for the orbital period is the Anomalistic Period, or time to complete one circuit of the ellipse. It is not the same as the time taken to complete one circuit of the Earth. Care should be exercised when comparing Orbital Focus data with other published orbits because they may have been derived using a different model.
You can keep up to date with changes or mission events by following Orbital Focus at Blue Sky.

Lunar lander from US company Firefly, carrying ten experiments for NASA under its Commercial Lunar Payload Services programme. Separated from launch vehicle at 07:16 UTC. Trans-lunar injection occurred February 8, at the third apogee of its initial barycentric orbit (similar to 62719, 2025-010D). Arrival in orbit around the Moon February 14 followed a 255 seconds thruster firing commencing at 01:51 UTC. Three further thruster firings resulted in a 20 x100 kilometre orbit. A thruster firing March 2 at 08:22 UTC set up the descent trajectory resulting in touchdown at 08:34 UTC (around lunar sunrise) in the Mare Crisium. Surface operations continued until March 16 and lunar sunset after which the solar cells ceased to provide power. |

A 492s thruster firing February 3 at 13:41 UTC resulted in orbit around the Moon. Multiple thruster firings on March 6 resulted in touchdown near the south pole of the Moon at 17:30 UTC about 400 metres from the aim point. Communication was established with ground stations, indicating it had toppled over. Athena was planned to operate for ten days until lunar sunset but operations ceased when battery power was exhausted March 7. |

Dragon splashed down in the Pacific Ocean near the coast of southern California at 16:19 UTC. Mission duration was determined by the crew's total radiation dose on orbit. Previous re-entries - the Trunk module was discarded BEFORE retro-fire and remained in orbit. |
